Vacuum Pump Filters

The purpose of vacuum pump filters is to keep dirt and other particles from getting into or out of your vacuum pump and polluting the parts of your vacuum system.

Vacuum exhaust filters are frequently employed in oil-sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps. The main goal of an exhaust filter is to reduce or completely remove oil mist from the pump, which is often produced as a consequence of a vacuum pump's operation. The term "oil mist eliminator" is commonly used to describe a vacuum pump exhaust filter.

Vacuum pumps usually produce oil mist or vapor for a multitude of reasons. It typically results from running the vacuum pump at extremely "low" pressures. The vacuum pump's activity may result in the production of oil mist at operating pressures greater than 1 Torr or 1000 micron. Oil mist is frequently produced by pumping against an "open" or leaky system. Given the intricate routes that the vacuum gas must travel through as it exits the pump, the process will atomize the molecules of oil.

Types of Vacuum Filters Types of Vacuum Filters

Vacuum pump filters come in two different categories: exhaust and intake. The first option is a standard exhaust filter, usually a coalescing filter, which will capture oil mist and keep oil in the pump. When oil "coalesces," it returns to the pump after condensing on the interior of the filter element or related housing. The vacuum pump's intake filters are typically high-density, low porosity filters that remove particles from the intake port.

A multi-stage filtering system is frequently necessary. To gradually remove particles and oil mist, these filter systems may include two or more stages or layers of filters. An oil mist eliminator might serve as the first filter, and a disposable charcoal trap could serve as the second filter to remove volatile organic compounds from the vacuum.

Why Are They Important?

The proper vacuum pump filter can guard the machinery in your company from several risks, including chemical deterioration, particle accumulation, physical harm to delicate components, and more. They can also reduce the danger that dust and chemicals in the air bring to your onsite staff.
